I've been trying to discover what this item is, without any luck. Some sort of chatelaine that hangs from vest buttons maybe? It has three curb link chains attached to two open rectangular "boxes." The opening of the the boxes measures 1" x 3/8" (outside 1-1/4" x 11/16") and they are 5/16" thick. The shortest chain is 10-1/2" long and the longest one is about 12". I believe the whole piece may be gold plated, but I'm not sure. A high-quality item, whatever it is! If anyone can clue me in, I would appreciate it. It weighs 80 grams, or almost 3 ounces.
