The depiction of the Greek God Apollo in this cameo is so interesting. I'm not sure what material the cameo is made out of and though it does have some age-related wear, there are still fabulous details on the face and hair. The back of the cameo is signed, but I can't quite make out the letters. (Looks like it may be three letters, with an "a" in the middle, but that is still speculation.) The cameo is framed in a gold plated, black enamel octagon, and the heavy curb chain is also gold plated. The very bottom of the cameo has a slotted hole in it, where it looks like it was misaligned at some time. It could probably be fixed if the cameo was removed and replaced into the frame, but I am reluctant to do that. The enamel is in excellent condition, and any light spots in the pictures is camera glare. The necklace is overall 17-1/2 inches long, and the pendant has about a 1-7/8 inch diameter.

Apollo was the Greek God of prophecy, music (primarily the lyre and he also directed the choir of the muses), healing, and of the sun. Really a wonderful necklace, with probably some interesting history behind it.
